67th Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Course Taking Place in St. Lucia, May 1-8

Though the 67th Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Course is approaching fast, there is still time to register for the popular DAN® course. The May 1-8, 2010, program will be held at Anse Chastanet in St. Lucia, West Indies. Jointly sponsored by DAN and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), the six-day course will provide facts relevant to the prevention and management of dive accidents and the practice of dive medicine.

The course is designed primarily for physicians, emergency medical personnel, paramedics and nurses. However, other dive professionals such as instructors, divemasters and other non-medical, dive-related personnel might also find the course of value.

Led by a faculty of industry experts, the course will cover topics including:

  • physical fitness and dive safety
  • decompression sickness (DCS) and arterial gas embolism (AGE)
  • assessing suitability for diving
  • ear, nose and throat issues and management
  • cardiovascular problems and diving
  • pulmonary edema

In addition, attendees will take part in programs on current issues and updates on recent scientific research in hyperbaric medicine.

The course fee is $700, which includes course materials, a course shirt, CME credit* (upon completion of the course) and a farewell reception.

A special seven-night hotel, meal and dive package is available at Anse Chastanet (for all hotel and diving packages, see the course brochure). The resort is nestled on a 600-acre secluded estate with breathtaking views of St. Lucia's famous Piton Mountains rising out of the Caribbean Sea. It offers two beautiful, natural, soft-sand beaches surrounded by coral reefs. Snorkeling, windsurfing, sunfish sailing, kayaking, tennis, a variety of personal excursions, island tours, rainforest hikes and jungle biking are all available.
